• Before the turn of the century vast herds of buffalo or bison roamed the prairies of the American west. A bull buffalo who rises to become the leader of the herd, is one of massive stature, strength and experience. As leader, a bull buffalo will let out a piercing bellow as a challenge and warning to other male buffalo, as this sculpture depicts.
• This was a common scene viewed by the grandparents of the artist Earl W. Bascom when they crossed the plains in the 1850's as pioneers. This bronze sculpture, which is finished in a light brown patina and mounted on an oval black marble and onyx base with a beveled edge, shows all the characteristics of those majestic animals in realistic detail.
