Additional information: One of the world's greatest bucking horses. "Five Minutes to Midnight" explodes from the chute as legendary rodeo champion Turk Greenough holds on for dear life.
During the years the artist Earl Bascom was a professional rodeo cowboy there were two horses that became the greatest bucking horses in the world - "Midnight" and "Five Minutes to Midnight". Not long after the horse "Midnight" started his reputation in the 1920's as the world's greatest bucking horse, along came another black horse who bucked just as hard, but because he was somewhat smaller he was called "Five Minutes to Midnight".
This sculpture depicts rodeo champion Turk Greenough riding "Five Minutes to Midnight" at the Pendleton Roundup in 1939, and one of the few times this great horse was ever ridden. Both the rider and horse are honored in the Cowboy Hall of Fame. This sculpture is part of the Hall of Fame collection.
